As the essential link between the European Downstream Petroleum Industry, government, regulators and other stakeholders, EUROPIA has had a significant impact on environmental, economic and social policy. Since EUROPIA came into being in 1989, the industry has decreased CO2 emissions in refining substantially. Energy efficiency in refining has increased by 13% in the last 15 years. And EUROPIA’s rigorous efforts working with regulators and industry continue to pay off economically and environmentally.
EUROPIA has proved to be an important player in shaping energy policy and regulation through its participation in events such as 2008’s Energy Intensive Industries & Climate Change Conference in Brussels and 2009’s European Commission Sustainable Energy Week. EUROPIA also is an Official Campaign Associate of Sustainable Energy Europe.
EUROPIA also reaches out to consumers, through actions like its Save More than Fuel campaign, launched in 2008. Developed in partnership with the European Commission, the Save More than Fuel campaign included both the website www.savemorethanfuel.eu and 30 million leaflets distributed in 29 European countries advising consumers of 10 ways to improve energy efficiency while driving.
